Make a Business Plan

by admin on December 4, 2009

Do you want a business that makes money? No way! Really… you need a plan – a business plan.

Many people have asked me, over the years, how to make money online and I have tried to explain it to them. Some get it, some don’t, but most people have always said they’d love to find a way to build an online business that would give them a comfortable living.

The conversation usually ends with the topic of building a website. Most people don’t know how to write html and they don’t want to learn because they think it’s the same as computer programming. So, building a website is out of the question for them.

Something has happened in the last couple of years. The web log, or blog!

Now, the same people are asking me questions like: How do I make money from my blog? That’s a switch!

I’m thrilled at the way blogging has caught-on. People, that would have never published anything in their life, are now talking about their cat in their very own blog. They are blogging on the web and trying to figure out how to get the word out to more cat lovers. But most importantly, these people want to make enough money so they can quit their day job. They need to build traffic, but we’ll go there later.

Hey! George W. Bush will be out of work in February! Maybe he will be blogging soon too!

My example of the cat lover is however, not the norm. Most blogs are confused musings without direction. But that’s cool. If you are publishing your thoughts for fun… go for it. If money is not an issue for you, keep musing away to your hearts’ content.

If you want to make some cash from your efforts, then that’s a horse of a different color and in the world of business you need to have a Business Plan!

A business plan is your starting point for a successful business idea. It doesn’t matter if you are online or on the street. When you build your plan, you will do research to find out if your idea can work. If you find things that you weren’t anticipating, you might want to change your plan or even the whole idea. You might also uncover little gems that you didn’t know were there. Going through this process will help you refine your ideas. It should be a part of your overall business strategy.

Lay out your roadmap. Would you drive across the country without one?
Of course not.

Stay Tuned!
