Some say that SEO begins with optimizing your page, which is very important, but if you don’t have a Link Building plan, you’ll get very little traffic to your site!
You also need to get the right kind of traffic and this will be determined by how other websites or blogs link back to you. These links are commonly referred to as Backlinks.
Finding sites that will link to you is one of the hardest things to accomplish in the online world. The sites that are very good at getting linked-to will invariably increase in popularity and rise in the search engine results.
However, this is a necessary part of any Internet Marketing strategy for your site. There are some basic rules you must follow if you are going to be successful. So here are the basics:

What is a Backlink?

Why are Backlinks Important?

Why is the Anchor Text Important?

How do you get Incoming Anchor Text Links?

Leaving Comments on Blogs

Post A “Link To My Post” Option
A common method for site owners to use in their link building strategy is to leave comments on blogs that are about the same topic as their own site. This is a good idea but you need to make sure that you actually use a keyword that you want to rank for instead of your name. If you are trying to rank for your name, then go ahead and use it.
You also need to be aware that the link you leave is a dofollow link, otherwise you won’t receive any juice from the search engines. A nofollow link tag is ok if you are just trying to get a bit of traffic but when the search engine crawls the site, the link you left will not be followed. More on tags and their uses later.
One of the most effective ways to get some authority, is to write articles for submission to the various article sites. There are a many places you can do this and this is a absolute necessity for getting traffic as well. I will be providing a list of places you can submit your articles in an up-coming post.
When a person is starting a blog or a website, this is usually one of the first linking strategies they will be exposed-to. An exchange of links is good if it done one on one with another site of relevant content but a reciprocal link does not have the same authority as a one way link. Google ranks pages, not websites, so every page or post on your site has it’s own rank for each keyword. That’s why it’s called Page Rank! Remember this fact when you are exchanging links.
Stay away from Link Exchanges as the really don’t offer much at all except worthless traffic. These link exchange sites may be what Google means by bad neighborhoods!
I’m sure you’ve seen this little text area block at the end of a post on some of your favorite blogs. This is very effective because you can write the code with the exact anchored text you decide. here is an example of the offer that is usually made:
If you found this post useful and would like to place a link on your web site, simply paste this html code to make the link appear on your page:

Link BuildingAs you can see, this is a very good way to control how people link to you. You can build your links using the keyword that you want to rank for in the search engines.
There are many different ways to go about getting links to your content but you need to be careful that you use the correct keywords in your link.

Backlinks are incoming links to a page on your website or blog from another website or blog. When someone likes the content on your page, or thinks it may be relevant to their content, they may include a link from their own site that points to that page. Links from Directories and Bookmarks on social sites are included.
Google, and Yahoo, determine the relevance of a page every time there is a query and they serve-up the most appropriate pages accordingly. They base the Authority, or Page Rank, of a page on how many other pages with relevant content link to the page in their index, and also the text used in the link(Anchor Text).
Let’s just say you have a page about free home business tips! You certainly wouldn’t want someone linking to your page with blogger templates. However, if you have a page on blogger templates on your free home business tips site, that would be a great anchored text link. The Anchor Text has to be relevant. In other words, related to the content on your page so it adds value to the users search experience. Search engines love this.
